Day 10: Quest to the Nest
We left Munich early that morning and headed down south to the village of Berchtesgarden, where we settled into a new hotel. We would be spending the next few days there. After that, we went up to the mountains, where the Eagle's Nest sat.
The Eagle's Nest was not what I was expecting. Our guide we got prior to the trip said that this was the secret hideout of Adolf Hitler where he and his men planned their conquest of Europe. As we got there, however, we were immediately proven wrong. It was Hitler's teahouse where he entertained his guests, even though it is now a restaurant offering charity money. Apparently, they tried to distance the building from its Nazi past to be more sensitive and not idolize Hitler in any way, even though I thought it would do just that. Looks like we need that guide updated. At least it had a nice view of the surrounding valley from the top.
On our way back to Berchtesgarden, we stopped in a small town called Ramsau. We didn't do much there. We took some pictures, walked across a bridge, and saw an old church with a built-in cemetery. We did leave very quickly because it started to rain, but we made it back to the hotel safe and sound. I was lazy and stayed in the rest of the night, but mom brought us back Italian pizzas for dinner.
I loved that little church in Ramsau! It actually was my wallpaper on my phone for quite a while. I took a cool picture with a little blue Volkswagen Beetle in front of the church, and thought it was so pretty.
